What criteria is used for admissions?
The admissions committee will review the follow areas: Attendance, Behavior and Credits/Grades.
Who can apply for VLA?
VLA only accepts students residing in Fayette County. We are unable to take students out of our district.
VLA accepts students in the 6th grade through the 12th grade.
We are not able to take high school students who are more than 2 credits behind their Kentucky Department of Education graduation requirements. Please visit KDE's website for graduation requirements.
What does a typical day look like for a VLA Student?
VLA follows an A Day/B Day calendar that puts us on a daily block schedule.

Homeroom starts at 8:30 every day.

Students log into class at the start time.

Blocks are 80 minutes long BUT teachers have live instruction for the first 40/45 minutes. The last part of class is for extra help, tutoring, working independently or taking a break.

What is the attendance policy at VLA?
Students are expected to follow their schedule and attend their live Google Meet classes. If a student is not able to attend class, they should complete the class check-in form and follow the expectations. Attendance is taken daily in each class period. VLA also follows FCPS excuse notes policies: unlimited doctor notes, 10 parent notes.
What curriculum does VLA use?
VLA teachers follow the FCPS curriculum pacing guides and use the same curriculum as the in-person schools. Example: Amplify Science, Envision Math
VLA offers an E-Commerce CTE Pathway. Courses for this pathway include digital literacy, marketing, entrepreneurship, and co-op. Students can earn credits through working.
What courses does VLA offer?
At this time, we do not offer advance courses for any grade level.
VLA does offer dual credit math and dual credit speech classes.

Are VLA students expected to come into the building?
VLA students are only expected to come into the building for state testing. This means:
Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) for grades 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11.
ACT for students in grades 10 and 11.
ACCESS testing for ELL students in grades 6-12.
Can VLA students participate in activities at their districted school?
VLA students can participate in sports at their districted middle or high school.
Seniors are able to participate in and attend graduation with their districted high school.
VLA High School students are able to attend dances and prom with the completion of permission forms provided by the districted high school.
VLA offers clubs for our students during homeroom time on Thursday. We also try to offer one in-person social event a month for students and/or families.
